For those of you looking through our site that have experienced street preaching, or street evangelism, you will know what I am writing about shortly. For those of you who have not experienced it, let me tell you that you are truly missing out.

Growing up I always heard about those crazy guys who went out on the downtown streets of some of the worst cities in America and preached to the homeless, ruthless, and those who care less. I just always believed what I was told - these guys must be crazy.

Recently I was able to go to the streets of Red Light with Dan Gjerstad to preach. Red Light is one of the most congested, busy, and dangerous areas of Monrovia. The place is crazy! Cars whizzing by inches away from people lining the streets selling, buying, and periodically stealing their way through town. It is like nothing you can imagine. The smell is simply unbearable and the dirtiness of everything from the streets to the people is enough to make you run away - that is unless God has given you compassion to see these wonderful people through "HIS EYES"!

Dan, Stacy (his wife), two of his children, and I parked the car, headed to the streets, and made our way to an open area where Dan opened his Bible and began reading loudly. At first I was embarrassed (sad to say). Everyone walked up, gave him a dirty look, and kept on walking. But Dan just kept on speaking. Soon enough a crowd began to emerge from the streets and I was able to count over 50 people standing and listening. He finished his preaching, closed the Bible, and I opened the backpack which had tracts and bibles in it. People swarmed us and before I knew it we had given away close to 100 tracts and bibles. HOW AMAZING.

The Bible says that God's word will not go out void. Our goal is not to be the best street evangelists, or the loudest, but our goal is to be the most effective. We hit the streets no less than once a week and will be starting evangelism training within the year. What a fun and exciting ministry project!
